Scott Air Force Base is a base of the United States Air Force in St. Clair County, Illinois, near Belleville. Scott Field was one of thirty-two Air Service training camps established after the United States entered World War I in April 1917. The base is operated by the 375th Air Mobility Wing (375 AMW) and is also home to the Air Force Reserve Command‘s 932d Airlift Wing (932 AW) and the Illinois Air National Guard‘s 126th Air Refueling Wing (126 ARW), the latter two units being operationally gained by the US Air Force’s Air Mobility Command (AMC). Its airfield is also used by civilian aircraft, with civilian operations at the base referring to the facility as MidAmerica St. Louis Airport. MidAmerica has operated as a Joint Use Airport since beginning operations in November 1997. Scott Air Force Base is named after Corporal Frank S. Scott, the first enlisted person to be killed in an aviation crash. It is the only USAF base named after an enlisted person.

For anyone flying in and out of Scott AFB. The USO in Lambert Field St. Louis int’l airport is 24 hours and has comfy beds and recliners to sleep on. And there’s a train right there at the same terminal that will take you to Scott AFB (about a 45 minute ride) for only $4!! …And then when you get off there’s a free shuttle right there that will take you to lodging, on its regular route.
